Many Doubt Death Sentences Will Stem India Sexual Attacks

“There was no mistaking the whoop of joy that rose outside Saket District Court in New Delhi on Friday, when word got out that four men convicted in last December’s horrific gang rape and murder had been sentenced to death by hanging,” Ellen Barry and Betwa Sharma wrote in The New York Times.

“We are the winners now,” said a woman holding a placard, Ms. Barry and Ms. Sharma wrote. “Sweat had dried into white rivulets on her face, but she had the look of a woman who had, finally, gotten what she wanted.”
