The Los Angeles Airport Police added extra patrols Tuesday after a second explosion of dry ice in a restricted area of the airport on Monday night, according to Sgt. Belinda Nettles.
The airport police and the Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad responded to a report at 8:20 p.m. Pacific time of suspicious devices near the gate area at Tom Bradley International Airport. Three soda bottles with dry ice were cleared at about 9:45 p.m. Only one had burst, the police said.
On Sunday, a bottle containing dry ice exploded in an employee restroom around 7 p.m., delaying flights and shutting down activity in Terminal 2 as the police investigated. No injuries were reported in either incident.
âAirport police officers are on extra patrols at all terminals, on the airfield ramps and in the public areas â" on foot, bikes, in black and whites and with canine teams,â Sergeant Nettles said. âThe safety and security of the traveling public is our priority, and we want to reassure the public that LAX is safe.â
