As my colleagues Andrew Higgins and Andrew Kramer report from Kiev, a short-lived truce exploded into deadly violence on Thursday around the protest camp in the center of the Ukrainian capital.
Live video streams posted on YouTube by a local Internet channel, Espreso.tv, and the American-financed Radio Svoboda, continue to make it possible to watch the violence in Kievâs Independence Square unfold in real time.
Meanwhile, images and video clips posted on social networks by reporters, activists and even Ukraineâs interior ministry offer a stream of ground-level views of the deadly clashes. One of the most-widely shared video clips, posted on YouTube by a Belarussian channel, was said to show protesters in Kiev being shot as they tried to advance during clashes with the riot police â" some in camouflage and holding up shields taken from the riot police.
Video uploaded to YouTube on Thursday, said to show violence in Kiev.
More footage, posted online by Britainâs Channel 4 News, showed clear images of armed officers firing rifles in the streets, and graphic video of badly wounded or dead protesters at a makeshift medical center in the lobby of the Hotel Ukraine on the edge of the square.
