Security cameras on the East Coast captured a flash in the sky Friday night that appears to have been a small meteor.
Bill Cooke of NASAâs Meteoroid Environment Office, told The Associated Press that, based on the reports, it was a âsingle meteor event.â
âJudging from the brightness, weâre dealing with something as bright as the full moon,â Dr. Cooke said. âThe thing is probably a yard across. We basically have (had) a boulder enter the atmosphere over the Northeast.â
The video above, from Thurmont, Md., matches another security video taken at a car dealership in Salisbury, Md.
By Saturday morning, there were no reports of damage. But perhaps the meteor will persuade Americans to follow the example of those in Russia who install dashboard cameras that record constantly (and that captured incredible video of a meteor that injured more than 1,200 people and smashed through the ice of a Siberian lake earlier this year).
