Jammu and Kashmir: A woman from Pakistan was caught by the Border Security Forces in the Samba District of Jammu and Kashmir along the Indian-Pakistani border Thursday, according to a Press Trust of India report in Hindustan Times. The initial investigation revealed that she had accidentally crossed into India and nothing incriminating was recovered from her, an officer told the wire service.

Manipur: Nameirakpam Chingkheinganba,16, who hails from the state's capital, Imphal,  became the youngest Indian to have scaled  Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, Hindustan Times reported. He was part of an expedition comprising mountaineers from the northeastern states that reached Everest's summit on May 18.

West Bengal: At least nine infants, all less than a year old, died earlier this week at a government hospital in the Malda district of West Bengal, according to a Press Trust of India report on the NDTV Web site. The hospital authorities attribute the deaths to premature birth, low weight and respiratory difficulties.

Rajasthan: A 22-year-old newlywed woman was allegedly gang raped in Rajasthan's Sikar district on Monday night, Times of India reported. According to the local police, three men entered her house while her husband was away and raped her when the other family members were asleep. The young woman's family said that the alleged culprits beat them up when they went to the local police station to report the matter the following day.

Jharkhand: Suspected Maoists killed two people in the Gumla district on Thursday, according to an IANS report on the Zee News Web site. The police said that the two men were dragged out of the homes before a group of 15-20 Maoist suspects shot them.

Andhra Pradesh: Two ministers of the state government resigned from their posts Monday after the top investigative agency, Central Bureau of Investigation, named them in the ongoing inquiry in a corruption case against the jailed leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, a lawmaker from Andhra Pradesh, Live Mint reported. P. Sabitha Indra Reddy was the state's home minister, and Dharmana Prasada Rao the minister for roads and building.
