Jammu and Kashmir: At least 90 Pakistani infiltrators entered India this year through the countries' shared border, up from 63 last year, according to a Home Ministry estimate based on ground reports from intelligence agencies. The apparent increase has raised concern within the security establishment, Kashmir Live reported.

West Bengal: More than 60 infants died in the state in November, with 10 deaths reported within a span of 24 hours at the government-run Malda Medical College and Hospital in the Malda district, The Hindu reported. A state health department spokesman said there was ‘“nothing alarming' about the crib deaths, which were due to asphyxia and septicaemia,” the newspaper wrote.

Uttar Pradesh: Chief Minster Akhilesh Yadav has ordered a probe into the recent killing of Abdul Hakim in Bulandshahr district after the incident drew national attention, NDTV reported. Earlier this year, during a taping for “Satyame v Jayate,” a reality show hosted by the actor Amir Khan, Mr. Hakim said he had been threatened by his wife's family for marrying her against their wishes, although the interview was never broadcast.

Gujarat: The latest effort to attract foreign tourists to the state is being called “election tourism,” according to a PTI report on the Zee News Web site. As Gujarat prepares for state assembly elections this month,  tour operators are inviting international tourists to get a glimpse of the process of polling in the world's largest democracy.

Andhra Pradesh: A court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, a member of Parliament and the president of the regional political party, YSR Congress, who is in jail for a suspected illegal assets case. The court said the watchdog agency looking into the case is still investigating, according to The New Indian Express.
