Coldplay announced on Sunday it will return to New York to play a New Year's Eve show at Barclays Center with the rapper Jay-Z, the first time the British pop-rock band has played New York City in several years.
The band will also play at the newly built Brooklyn arena on Dec. 30, but not with Jay-Z, Barclays Center said in a news release. Instead, Naturally 7 will be the supporting act.
The Dec. 31 concert will be the second time in three years that Coldplay has celebrated the new year with Jay-Z, who is a longtime friend and collaborator of the group's lead singer, Chris Martin. The band shared a bill with Jay-Z at a New Year's Eve concert in Las Vegas in 2010. More recently, Jay Z performed with Coldplay in London at the 2012 Paralympic Games Closing Ceremony.
The two Brooklyn concerts also mark the first shows that Coldplay has done in New York City since September 2005, the band said in a statement on its Web site.
Coldplay has spent much o f the year on an international tour. Tickets for the Barclays Center shows go on sale Nov. 17.
