For Ryan Silverman, There\'s Life After \'Rebecca\'

Ryan Silverman, who was set to star as Maxim De Winter in the Broadway musical “Rebecca” until it fell apart, has been cast as Giorgio in the Classic Stage Company revival of “Passion,” the theater announced on Tuesday.

He joins Judy Kuhn and Melissa Errico in the Tony-winning musical drama by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. Directed by John Doyle (“Sweeney Todd”), the show is scheduled to begin previews February 7 for a February 28 opening.

Mr. Silverman, who has logged many performances as Raoul in “Phantom of the Opera,” was among the 100-plus members of the “Rebecca” cast and creative team who scrambling for work last month when the $12 million musical imploded amid financing problems that included a fake investor.

While he won't get to roam the halls of Manderley in “Rebecca,” Mr. Silverman plays another tormented romantic lead in “Passion,” which won the best musical Tony in 1994. His Giorgio is a 19th-century Itali an army officer with a beautiful mistress (Ms. Errico) who unexpectedly falls in love with Fosca (Ms. Kuhn) an unattractive older woman.
