Wrote a Book for Everyone: A Memoir From John Fogerty

If there were ever a worthy opportunity to title a book “There's a Bathroom on the Right,” this would seem to be it. John Fogerty, the singer-songwriter and former front man of Creedence Clearwater Revival, whose hit songs include “Proud Mary,” “Fortunate Son” and the oft-misheard “Bad Moon Rising,” has become the latest rock star of a certain vintage to join the memoir parade and will write a book about his life for Little, Brown and Company, the publisher announced.

In a news release Little, Brown said that Mr. Fo gerty's book would cover topics like “the pressures of sudden fame, his tumultuous relationships with his bandmates-including his brother, Tom-and his long and costly battle for creative freedom from his record label.” (Mr. Fogerty's feud with Fantasy Records and its owner, Saul Zaentz, who sued him for infringing on the copyrights of his own songs, would eventually lead to a Supreme Court case resolved in 1994.)

Mr. Fogerty said in a statement: “The kid from El Cerrito wanted to be the best musician in the world-my promise to myself. I accomplished that goal against all odds, only to have it fall apart on top of me. The songs and the music stopped; you didn't hear from John Fogerty for years. All of this took its toll on me. I couldn't write a song, sing a song. And it was so hard on me, all of the lawsuits and betrayals. I was personally fading away. My story will share the ups and downs and how it all affected me. The road back was a bumpy one, and I knew that it would take years to come out of it, but I did.”

Mr. Fogerty's memoir is expected to be published in 2014. Alas, no title was immediately announced.
