\'Ann,\' Holland Taylor\'s Play About Ann Richards, Will Open on Broadway

“Ann,” a play based on the life of Ann W. Richards, the colorful Democratic governor of Texas who died in 2006, is coming to Broadway. The play will open on March 7, 2013 at Lincoln Center Theater's Vivian Beaumont Theater, producers Bob Boyett and Harriet Newman Leve announced Monday.

Written and performed by Holland Taylor, best-known for playing Evelyn Harper, the acerbic mother on “Two and Half Men,” “Ann” has been touring the country, touching down most recently at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Benjamin Endsley Klein will direct the one-person show.

“Ann” marks Ms. Taylor's debut as a playwright. She spent four years interviewing people who knew Ms. Richards, wat ching video footage of her, and perusing her papers at the University of Texas.

Ms. Richards was the state's 45th governor until losing in 1994 to George W. Bush. A champion of civil rights for minorities, women and gay men and lesbians, she died at age 73 from complications of esophageal cancer.

Scheduling and ticket information for “Ann,” which while playing the Beaumont is not a Lincoln Center Theater production, will be announced at a later date.
