By now Neil Patrick Harrisâs bucket list must be short enough to fit on a Post-it note: host the Academy Awards; write a memoir; get the Criterion Collection to release a special cinephile edition of âHarold & Kumar Go to White Castle.â And he can cross one more item off that agenda: the Crown Archetype imprint of Random House's Crown Publishing Group is expected to announce on Tuesday that it has acquired a new nonfiction book from Mr. Harris, the stage and screen performer; Emmy Award-winner; host of the Emmys, Tonys, TV Land Awards and Spike Video Game Awards; and star of CBS's âHow I Met Your Mother.â
Mr. Harris's book, which is planned for a spring 2014 publication, does not yet have a ti tle, but Crown Archetype described it in a news release as âa work of imaginative nonfiction that delivers an interactive, nonlinear reading experience that breaks the boundaries of conventional memoir.â The publisher added that Mr. Harris - âan accomplished amateur magicianâ - would âdraw upon his love of adventure and surprise in creating the book, as well as upon the many roles he has played in his life and career-from being a child star to coming out, and from acting on Broadway to becoming a proud father.â
Mr. Harris said in a statement: âI'm excited to be writing a book of the observations and stories of my life. I read with great fondness Tina Fey's âBossypants,' so my plan is just to reprint those exact stories but change the names to people that I knew. What editor would take issue with that?â
