Following the recent announcement that the âFamily Guyâ creator Seth MacFarlane will host the Academy Awards in February - an appeal, perhaps, to the Y-chromosomes out there in TV land - the organizers of the Golden Globe Awards are offering their own form of counterprogramming: on Monday night, they announced that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, the former âSaturday Night Liveâ co-stars and now mainstays of NBC's Thursday-night comedy lineup, will host the Golden Globes in January.
Ms. Poehler, the star of NBC's âParks and Recreation,â and Ms. Fey, the creator and star of â30 Rock,â were officially announced as co-hosts on Monday by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization behind the Golden Globes; NBC, which will show the Globes ceremony live on Jan. 13; and Dick Clark Productions, which produces the show.
Paul Telegdy, NBC Entertainment's president of alternative and late-night programming, said in a statement: âHaving both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on board to host this year's festivities is a major coup.â
In addition to the years they spent sharing a stage at âSaturday Night Live,â Ms. Poehler and Ms. Fey also appeared together in the 2008 comedy film âBaby Mama.â Ms. Fey is a two-time Golden Globe winner for â30 Rock,â while Ms. Poehler received her first nomination (for âParks and Recreationâ) last year.
Together, they dethrone Ricky Gervais, the British comedian and co-creator of âThe Office,â who hosted the Golden Globes to occasional controversy from 2010 through 2012.
