Foundation Cites Design Work That Benefits Society

Five firms from Brooklyn to Ramallah will share equally in an award devoted to the concept of design as a force for social good. The Curry Stone Foundation has announced that its 2012 Curry Stone Design Prize will for the first time be distributed among five recipients, in honor of the fifth anniversary of the award, which celebrates design “as a critical force for improving lives and strengthening communities.”

Each recipient will receive $25,000 and the list includes: the Center for Urban Pedagogy, aka CUP of Brooklyn, New York; Liter of Light of Manila, Philippines; MASS Design of Boston, MA; Riwaq Centre for Architectural Conservation of Ramallah, Palestine; and Jeanne van Heeswijk of Rotterdam, Netherlands.

An awards ceremony will take place on November 15 at Harvard Graduate School of Design, with a forum with the winners and expert panel discussions the following day. Both are free and open to the public.
