Hurricane Sandy Darkens Broadway and Other Stages

The impending arrival of Hurricane Sandy has led to widespread cancellations of performances around the region. All Sunday and Monday night Broadway performances have been called off, according to a spokeswoman for the Broadway League, a trade association of theater owners and producers. Tickets purchased through Ticketmaster or Telecharge will be automatically refunded within 10 business days. Tickets purchased at theater box offices can be refunded or exchanged, subject to availability, at the original point of purchase.

Elsewhere, the comedian Louis C. K. postponed two of his standup shows at New York City Center that were scheduled for Sunday night. Both shows have been rescheduled for March 2. Those with tickets have been offered a full refund if they cannot not make the new date. In an e-mail distributed on Sunday, Louis C. K. explained his reasoning behind the move: “I know that a lot of people are excited to come, and they are fine with taking the chance, b ut I really don't want a pole to smash your face in because you saw some comedy.”

The Public Theater announced on its Web site that Sunday and Monday night performances were canceled. Ticket-holders can call the box office at (212) 967-7555 to reschedule. Lincoln Center Theater canceled its performances of the play “Disgraced” on Sunday and Monday nights at the Claire Tow Theater. Tickets can be returned to their point of purchase for a refund or exchange. 54 Below announced that all performances scheduled for Sunday night and Monday have been canceled. Ticket-holders can receive full refunds through TicketWeb.com and will be contacted about rescheduled performances.

The TKTS booths in Times Square, South Street Seaport and Downtown Brooklyn, which sell tickets to Broadway and Off Broadway shows, will be closed on Monday. Officials have not yet determined when the booths will reopen.
