Being accosted on the street by a crazy person who shouts in your face? That's a standard, everyday occurrence in New York. Being stopped by a crazy comedian who shouts pop-culture trivia questions at you and occasionally offers you cash prizes and other random random rewards? That's a television show.

And that's the premise of the Fuse cable channel's popular series “Funny or Die's Billy on the Street,” which will return for a new season on Dec. 7, it was announced on Wednesday. Season 2 of the game show-slash-social experiment, hos ted by the comedian Billy Eichner, will consist of 12 new half-hour episodes in which the irrepressible Mr. Eichner pulls in unsuspecting pedestrians for spontaneous questioning and humorous harassment. These episodes will also feature appearances by celebrities like Will Ferrell (a co-founder of the Funny or Die Web site), Maya Rudolph, Rashida Jones, Debra Messing, Nas, Christian Borle, Ashley Benson, Rachel Dratch, Nick Kroll, Andy Cohen, Perez Hilton, Hank Azaria, Zachary Quinto and Kristen Johnston.

Reviewing the first season of “Billy on the Street” for The New York Times, Jon Caramanica praised Mr. Eichner for “doing things within the confines of the television set that feel loose, unpredictable and appealingly wrong.”

“No one on TV shouts and screams like he does,” he wrote, “not even ‘Fear Factor' contestants.”
