A play about Amy Winehouse's turbulent life and tragic death, performed by the Danish Royal Theater, will open in Copenhagen next year, the BBC reported. Producers said the play would explore “the enormous pressure a sensationalist public put on a young superstar when her problems began.”

The script is said to be based on published materials and Ms. Winehouse's public appearances, including interviews, acceptance speeches, concerts, newspapers, letters and, of course, her songs. The production will feature songs from the singer's two studio albums, “Frank” and “Back to Black.” The lead will be played by the actress Johanne Louise Schmidt, 29. The play will open at the Red Room theater in Copenhagen in January.

The Winehouse family has said it has nothing to do with the production. Ms. Winehouse, a retro-soul singer who won five Grammy Awards in 2008 for “Back to Black,” was found dead in her London home in July 2011. She was 27 and died from alcohol poisoning.
