The saxophonist J.D. Allen, the pianist Marc Cary and the Mingus Big Band will be among the 30 jazz acts appearing in Central Park on Nov. 10 during the free Jazz & Colors concert, organizers said on Monday.
The lineup for the concert, which will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at sites throughout the park, is an eclectic mix of jazz ensembles, from traditional to experimental, playing in diverse styles, from latin to rock-fusion to swing to bebop. They include Gregoire Maret, the harmonica virtuoso; Yosvany Terry, the Cuban-born saxophonist; and Eric Lewis, or ELEW, a pianist who infuses his jazz with rock dynamics. Also playing sets will be ensembles including the Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars and Mitch Frohman's Latin-Jazz Quartet.
Scheduled during the peak of fall foliage, the concert has an autumn-in-New-York theme. The ensembles will all play the same two sets of songs, which have been chosen either because they are an artist's expression of love f or the city or for the season. The first set includes Thelonius Monk's âStraight No Chaser,â Billy Strayhorn's âTake the A Train,â John Coltrane's âCentral Park Westâ and Wayne Shorter's âFall.â
The bands will be set up at landmarks, arches, entrances and playgrounds throughout the park, with the Mingus Big Band in the Naumburg Bandshell and the Joel Harrison Quartet at the Delacorte Theater. The event's promoter, Peter Shapiro, has said the intent is to have visitors leave the sphere of one ensemble and come into the sounds of another, covering the park in a jazz tapestry of sorts. In between sets student musicians who have won an online music competition will play.

Correction: October 22, 2012
An earlier version of this post misidentified the instrument played by Yosvany Terry. He plays saxophone, not piano.
