TORONTO - It is rare for documentaries to receive gala screenings in one of the festival's largest venues, Roy Thomson Hall, but when the subject is Marilyn Monroe, there will be fanfare. âLove, Marilyn,â directed by Liz Garbus, focuses on letters and journal entries by the actress and uses celebrities like Uma Thurman and Marisa Tomei, to bring her words to life on screen.
Ms. Garbus, whose previous film, âBobby Fischer Against the World,â sought to better understand the complex life of that chess prodigy, again seeks to peel away layers to get to a more distinct truth about the person. In the video above, Ms. Garbus speaks a little about her film and some of what she learned exp loring the complicated life of this Hollywood star.
