Add Bob Guccione to the biopic boom.
Epix, the premium movie channel from Paramount Pictures, MGM and Lionsgate, said on Thursday that it had acquired United States television and Web streaming rights to “Filthy Gorgeous: The Extraordinary World of Bob Guccione.†A feature-length documentary, “Filthy Gorgeous†will chronicle Mr. Guccione's rise to porn titan and subsequent collapse to virtual pennilessness. He died in 2010 at the age of 79.
Barry Avrich, the filmmaker behind documentaries like “Unauthorized: The Harvey Weinstein Project,†will begin production this fall and “Filthy Gorgeous†will appear on Epix in the fall of 2013, the channel said. The project adds to a flock o f film biographies seeking attention, with subjects ranging from Venus and Serena Williams to David Geffen to Franklin D. Roosevelt.
