The 31st annual CMJ Music Marathon wrapped up in New York over the weekend. More than 1,300 acts from all over the globe performed in Manhattan and Brooklyn during the festival.
âThey came all the way from Australia or directly from Brooklyn: lugging their instruments through the streets, lending equipment to one another, glad-handing any interested listener, selling do-it-yourself CDs and vinyl and, by and large, striving to garner enough new attention and contacts to make all the effort worthwhile,â wrote Jon Pareles , the chief pop music critic for The Times, in his recap of the festival.
Mr. Pareles and Jon Carmanica covered CMJ for The Times and also shared evolving Spotify playlists featuring songs from some of the notable acts they saw during the festival.
