For his third feature as a director, âArgo,â Ben Affleck looked to a little-known chapter of the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis that was ripe for film treatment. âArgoâ tells the story of Tony Mendez (played by Ben Affleck), a C.I.A. âexfiltrationâ specialist who devises a plan to extract six Americans in hiding out of Iran by posing as the producer of a fake movie.
In the above scene, Mr. Affleck's character works with two Hollywood filmmakers (John Goodman and Alan Arkin), to find a script that would be convincing enough to make the plan work. He discusses how the scene came together, which moments needed reshoots and what material was left on the cutting room floor.
