âGame of Thronesâ received six awards at the Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday night, kicking off a competition between several cable dramas that will conclude next Sunday with the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards.
Another HBO drama, âBoardwalk Empire,â picked up three creative arts Emmys, which recognize television's technical feats. PBS's âDownton Abbeyâ and Showtime's âHomelandâ each picked up two. Those four dramas will compete in the outstanding drama category at the Primetime Emmys, along with two others, âMad Menâ and âBreaking Bad.â
The organization that holds the Emmys, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, presented its Governors Award to the It Gets Better Project , an online video movement to support gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender youth. Among the other winners on Saturday night were the nature documentary series âFrozen Planet,â the drama âGreat Expectationsâ and âSaturday Night Live,â which picked up four Emmys apiece; the History channel mini-series âHatfields & McCoys,â which won three; and âDeadliest Catch,â which received two.
