Abby Elliott Not Returning to \'Saturday Night Live\'

By DAVE ITZKOFF

Abby Elliott has joined the ranks of performers like Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg who are leaving the cast of “Saturday Night Live.” Ms. Elliott, who joined “S.N.L.” as a featured performer during its 2008-09 season, told the Web site Splitsider.com that she would not be returning to that long-running late-night comedy series. NBC declined to comment on Wednesday but a person with direct knowledge of plans at “S.N.L.” confirmed the report.

In her four seasons at “Saturday Night Live,” Ms. Elliott, a daughter of the comedian and one-time “S.N.L.” cast member Chris Elliott (and granddaughter of Bob Elliott, of the Bob and Ray comedy duo), provided impersonations of famous figures like An gelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, Zooey Deschanel and Rachel Maddow.

Producers at “Saturday Night Live” are continuing to audition new cast members for the show, which begins its 38th season on Sept. 15. NBC will also broadcast two prime-time “Weekend Update” specials on Sept. 20 and Sept. 27.

Still unknown is the status of the “S.N.L.” cast member Jason Sudeikis, who, as the show's resident impersonator of Joe Biden and Mitt Romney, would seem to be a crucial player in the coming election season. In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, Mr. Sudeikis suggested he could leave the show, saying, “To stay just for the juice of being in the public eye - of being Mitt Romney - is not enough.”
