The New York Film Festival has added âThe Paperboy,â a new film directed by Lee Daniels, to its coming roster, and with it a gala tribute to its star Nicole Kidman, the Film Society of Lincoln Center said on Tuesday.
Ms. Kidman, an Academy Award-winner for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in âThe Hours,â appears in âThe Paperboyâ as a woman who is the fiancée of a death-row inmate (played by John Cusack), and who becomes the romantic fixation of a young man (Zac Efron) while his journalist brother (Matthew McConaughey) investigates the inmate's case.
In a statement, Richard Peña, the programming director of the film society and chairman of the New York Film Festival's selection committee , praised Ms. Kidman for her work in films like âTo Die For,â âDogvilleâ and âEyes Wide Shut,â and for a career in which she âhas insisted on finding roles that are complex, bold and demanding.â
Mr. Peña, who is stepping down from his roles at the Film Society of Lincoln Center this year, will also be honored with his own gala tribute at the New York Film Festival. The tribute to Ms. Kidman will be held on Oct. 3 and the tribute to Mr. Peña will take place on Oct. 10. The festival runs from Sept. 28 through Oct. 14.
