A Concert for the Exiting Manhattan School of Music President

By DANIEL J. WAKIN

Robert Sirota is leaving as president of the Manhattan School of Music in October to devote all his time, according to the school, to composing. It so happens that his wife and two children are also professional musicians, so why not combine family and business in a concert farewell? Mr. Sirota's wife, Victoria, an organist, and children, Jonah and Nadia â€" both violists â€" will join him for a performance of some of his chamber works on Sept. 13 at the school's Borden Auditorium. Other musicians, including several of Manhattan's staff members, will also take part. Two pieces will have their first performances: “Constellation,” for two violas, celeste and piano (that would be Mr. Sirota's contribution) and “Twelve Days,” for six violas (as if there weren't enough violas in Mr. Sirota's life). Mr. Sirota has been president of Manhattan since 2005.
