Kevin Hart to Host MTV Video Music Awards

By DAVE ITZKOFF

He's been too long the bridesmaid, never the bride, but Kevin Hart is finally walking down the aisle … which is to say that the actor and comedian will be hosting the MTV Video Music Awards next month, it was announced on Wednesday. Mr. Hart, who has seen his stock rise with his hit concert film “Laugh at My Pain” and the romantic comedy “Think Like a Man,” has also appeared in films like “The Five-Year Engagement” and on shows like “Modern Family,” and was the host of the 2011 BET Awards. Last year, Mr. Hart performed an opening monologue at the VMAs, MTV's annual pageant of music, celebrities and inexplicable wardrobe choices, and he appeared in segments throughout the show, though that show was officially host-less. Mr. Hart announced his 2012 appointment via the above video, which also features appearances by couple-of-the-moment Kanye West and Kim Kardashian.

If that last detail didn't discourage you fr om tuning into the Video Music Awards, MTV will broadcast the show from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sept. 6.
