Monkees, Despite Death of Davy Jones, Say They Will Go on Tour

By JAMES C. MCKINLEY JR.

The three surviving members of the Monkees say they will go on tour in November, minus the charismatic Davy Jones, who died in February.  Michael Nesmith, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork announced that they would start a 12-date American tour in Escondido, Calif., on Nov. 8, hitting several major markets before wrapping up with a concert in New York on Dec. 2.

Though the band started out in 1966 as a goofy, made-for-TV group seeking to capitalize on the Beatles' success, the Monkees went on to record several pop hits, among them “Last Train to Clarksville,” “Daydream Believer” and “I'm a Believer.”  They have not toured together since 1997, and the possibility of a true reunion ended on Feb. 29, when Mr. Jones died of a heart attack near his home in Florida.
