Fuse, the music-themed cable channel that mixes videos and documentaries with offbeat fare like the comedy game show âFunny or Die's Billy on the Street,â is increasing its commitment to music journalism. On Tuesday it is expected to announce that it is creating a dedicated news division and introducing a daily news show whose hosts may be familiar to viewers of its sometime rival MTV.
The show, called âFuse News,â will be broadcast live, Monday through Friday, from the channel's studio on Seventh Avenue in Manhattan (near the home of Fuse's corporate parent, the Madison Square Garden Company).
âFuse Newsâ will run a half-hour each day and will be anchored in New York by Ashanti, the R&B singer and actress; Elaine Moran, a TV and online journalist; and Alexa Chung, a model and television personality who hosted a short-lived daily series on MTV, âIt's On With Alexa Chung.â
The show's West Coast anchor, based in Los Angeles, will be Jack Osbourne, an alumnus of the vintage-2000s MTV reality show âThe Osbournes.â (Mr. Osbourne, who recently disclosed that he has multiple sclerosis, also factored into announcements by his mother, Sharon Osbourne, that she would leave her hosting position on the NBC series âAmerica's Got Talent.â Ms. Osbourne has said NBC reneged on a commitment to allow Mr. Osbourne to appear on its reality competition âStars Earn Stripesâ; NBC said he never had a contract for the show.)
A debut date for âFuse Newsâ was not immediately announced. Fuse said in a statement that starting on Sept. 10 it would begin âto deliver breaking news across its television and online platforms and, after completing some techn ical refinements, will follow with the roll out of its new show, which will take its news initiative a step further by capturing the stories of the day and providing context.â
