“The Invisibles Omnibus,†a collection of the entire run of the Vertigo series from DC Comics created by Grant Morrison and originally serialized in the 1990s, lands at No. 1 on our hardcover graphic books best-seller list this week.
That's more than 1,500 pages of the weirdest and most mind-altering comics that any fanboy can have the pleasure of reading.
The basic plot of the series could be boiled down to Us vs. Them, but such story mechanics were often secondary to the sheer amount of strange ideas that Mr. Morrison would throw at readers. Any given issue could feature something like King Mob, a character drawn to look exactly like Mr. Morrison, speaking to the “godhead†John Lennon wh ile on an acid trip. Or a conversation about how the 1994 movie “Speed†was actually a metaphor for human evolution.
A majority of the artwork was done by Phil Jimenez, but there are other important contributions here from Chris Weston, Steve Yeowell and an amazing final issue drawn by Frank Quitely.
