Ladies and gentlemen, start your DVRs.
Fall TV may not be what it used to be - not with some of the most acclaimed shows now favoring summer schedules (âBreaking Badâ) or January launch dates (âDownton Abbey,â returning Jan. 6).
But the major networks are nothing if not creatures of habit, so September is still when they start rolling out their shiny new configurations of mostly tried-and-true formulas. So over the next few weeks viewers can expect this year's onslaught of dysfunctional families, wacky neighbors (human and otherwise), lovelorn doctors, gritty heroes (comic book-based and otherwise) and new scenery for familiar faces.
On Tuesday night the first of the new network serie s get officially underway, including Matthew Perry's new one (âGo On,â first seen in a sneak preview last month); a Ryan Murphy comedy about an unconventional family (âThe New Normalâ); and a sitcom about befuddled dads (âGuys With Kidsâ).
The Times's television critics and writers have already considered some of the fall season's new trends, new faces and new series, as well as some returning shows that may have been overlooked. They will continue to review the new shows as they are unveiled.
But you don't have to just take their word for it. Take a look at scenes from some of the network's new offerings and tell us in the comments what shows look worthwhile and what seem worth avoiding. What new or returning shows are you looking forward to this fall?
