âThe Lying Lesson,â a new play about a movie star who may or may not be Bette Davis, written by Pulitzer Prize finalist Craig Lucas (âPrelude to a Kissâ), will have its world premiere Off Broadway this winter at Atlantic Theater Company, executives there announced on Thursday.
The Emmy Award winner Carol Kane (âTaxiâ) will star as the main character, who calls herself Ruth (Davis's actual first name) as she tries to buy a home in a remote village in Maine; Ms. Kane most recently had a featured role in this summer's Broadway revival of âHarvey.â The director will be Anna D. Shapiro, who won a Tony Award for her staging of âAugust: Osage Countyâ on Broadway.
The comedy is set to begin preview performances at the Atlantic's Linda Gross Theater on Feb. 6, 2013, with an opening night of Feb. 27; the closing date is scheduled for March 17.
The theater company will also produce another world premiere, âGood Television,â written by the actor Rod McLachlan. The play centers on a producer of a reality television show where families intervene to help loved ones battle addiction. It will be directed by Bob Krakower and run at Atlantic Stage 2 from May 22-June 16, 2013.
The two plays join four previously announced productions for Atlantic's 2012-13 season.
